Jules Buck Jones' (M.F.A. Studio Art, 2008) work and home are featured in Glasstire. With a few other artists, Jones started a small studio collective on the East Side of town in the Monofonous Press Compound. His work is inspired by nature.

Leslie M. Castro Creates Art-Focused Tours of Mexico City

Leslie Moody Castro's (M.A. Art Education, 2010) created a curated art tour business in Mexico City. "We’re not so much offering tours, or lists of places to go, as were putting together experiences that draw connections between things and show how art fits into the larger history of Mexico,” says Castro. “Context is everything in how we put an itinerary together.”

Alums to exhibit at the Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin

Natalia Anciso (B.A. Studio Art, 2008) and Senalka McDonald (B.A. Studio Art, 2006) will be exhibiting at the Mexic-Arte Museum's exhibit: "Young Latina Artists 19: Y, Qué?". The artists work toward resolving conflicts that derive from questions related to race, class, cultural identity, gender and sexuality in their work. The opening reception will be held on Friday, June 13, from 6-9 pm and the exhibition will run until September 7.

Video game developer, Rachel Simone Weil (M.F.A. Design, 2014) was named one of Austin Monthly's 20 in their 20s. Weil is praised with having "honed a uniquely retrofit aesthetic that represents a nostalgic feminine identity in the video game oeuvre." 

Beth Ferguson Installs Solar Charging Stations on Campus

Is your battery running low? Beth Ferguson (M.F.A. Design, 2005) and Sol Design Lab have worked with UT students to install solar charging stations on campus. They created similar charging stations for college campuses and festivals like SXSW. The UT Austin stations are installed at the Perry-Castañeda Library plaza and in front of the Department of Art and Art History on San Jacinto and 23rd streets.
