Complete the UT Austin application

• Apply online via the Common Application or Apply Texas and select your preferred Butler School of Music major as your first choice. Important: Music applicants must apply online by Dec. 1 due to auditions in January.

Department of Art and Art History

Complete the UT Austin application

• Apply online via the Common Application or Apply Texas and select your preferred Department of Art and Art History major as your first choice
• Respond to Essay Topic D: view prompt

Submit art portfolio and artist statement [Art Education and Studio Art Only]

• The Art Portfolio includes 12-15 artworks, with at least two pieces being composed from direct observation
• Artist Statement prompt: “Please describe the art you make and why you make it. Feel free to elaborate on what your experience with art has been thus far, what art instruction you may have received in school and outside of school, and future goals you have within art”

Department of Theatre and Dance

Complete the UT Austin application

• Apply online via the Common Application or Apply Texas and select your preferred Department of Theatre and Dance major as your first choice. Important: we do not currently accept transfer applications to Acting B.F.A.

Submit additional materials for the Department of Theatre and Dance

After submitting your application for admission, you will need to submit a headshot, artistic resume, and additional items by major:

• Dance (B.F.A.) applicants submit a video pre-screen audition 
• Theatre Education (B.F.A.) applicants submit a video personal introduction & informal teaching demonstration
• B.A. in Theatre & Dance applicants submit an audition video or portfolio, depending on their intended emphasis

Selected applicants may be asked to participate in an audition or interview for final consideration.

School of Design and Creative Technologies

• Apply online via the Common Application or Apply Texas and select your preferred School of Design and Creative Technologies major as your first choice

Submit additional materials for the School of Design and Creative Technologies

• Design applicants submit a response to our Creative Design Prompt, including a final work and video essay to document your design process, and three recent work samples.
• Arts and Entertainment Technologies applicants do not need to submit any additional materials.

Requirements for Art History applicants

• Submit a writing sample. The writing sample must be a substantial, well-argued, and clearly written paper involving documented research, including a bibliography and/or appropriate citations, and demonstrating critical analysis. It must have been produced in a college-level course, preferably at UT Austin
