UT hosts 2019 International Council of Fine Arts Deans for annual conference

In early October, the College of Fine Arts hosted the 2019 International Council of Fine Arts Deans’ annual conference on campus in Austin. More than 200 deans and administrators from arts colleges and schools all over the world had the opportunity to learn more about the college’s programs, faculty and students.

Some highlights included:

  • A workshop on development in arts institutions hosted by the UT College of Fine Arts development team and UT’s Vice President for Development
  • A revival performance of The Method Gun, a devised theatre piece created by The Rude Mechanicals, a resident company of the University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance
  • Sunrise visits of the James Turrell Skyspace The Color Inside, hosted by Landmarks, UT’s public art program
  • A presentation co-presented by UT College of Fine Arts Dean Doug Dempster on the value of data collected by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project
  • A welcome address by Austin Mayor Steve Adler and UT System Chancellor James B. Milliken
  •  Presentation of the Award for Arts Achievement and Excellence to Louis Black, co-founder of The Austin Chronicle and South by Southwest
  • The roundtable presentation “The Promise of University Public Art: Building Landmarks,” presented by Landmarks Executive Director Andrée Bober
  • A discussion with Mariam Ghani, international artist, writer and filmmaker in an exclusive interview by NPR Correspondent John Burnett
  • A tour of Landmarks works on the UT campus
