For its 2024–25 season, the Butler School of Music celebrated a longtime relationship with renowned composer John Corigliano by programming multiple works for different ensembles during the past year.

In January, the UT Wind Ensemble performed two works by Corigliano for a concert at the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Corigliano’s ambitious work Circus Maximus was originally commissioned by the Wind Ensemble in 2004, and to celebrate the work’s 20th anniversary, the Wind Ensemble revisited the iconic work, which features three different bands: one on stage, an antiphonal ensemble in the hall and a marching band. The Wind Ensemble also performed Triathlon, a more recent work by Corigliano that featured Saxophone Professor Stephen Page as a soloist playing three different saxophones, one for each movement in the piece.

In February, the Symphony Orchestra performed Corigliano’s Voyage, featuring Assistant Professor of Flute Ebonee Thomas. The Butler Opera Center performed The Ghosts of Versailles, composed by Corigliano and with a libretto by William Hoffman.
