Applying to Graduate: Deadlines and Procedures

Apply to graduate for the Fall 2017 semester in DFA 1.103 between August 30 and November 7.

How do Fine Arts student apply to graduate?

  • If you are currently enrolled:
    • you apply to graduate during the semester you wish to graduate.
    • you will receive instructions via Secure Academic Notice at the beginning of the semester.
      • If you don’t receive this SAN, we don’t know you plan to graduate this semester! Contact us!
    • you can review your degree audit at IDA: Interactive Degree Audit
    • you graduate only if all your degree, residency, GPA and departmental requirements are completed at the end of the semester.
  • If you are NOT currently enrolled:
    • you are an in absentia student (this means you are not enrolled at the university when you graduate).
    • contact Student Affairs (512-471-5011) to discuss the in absentia graduation process.
    • you apply to graduate in absentia during the semester you wish to graduate.
    • you graduate only if all your degree, residency, GPA and departmental requirements are completed at the end of the semester.

College of Fine Arts Fall 2017 Commencement

Date: Saturday, December 9, 2017

Time: 3:00 PM

Location: LBJ Auditorium | 2405 Robert Dedman Drive | Austin, Texas 78712

In order to participate in the Fine Arts ceremony, you must:

- Email Catherine Whited at cwhited@austin.utexas.edu by December 1 if you plan to attend.

- Wear academic regalia and any Honors Day cords and medallions that you may have received to the ceremony. In order to participate in the ceremony, it will be necessary for you to wear a gown, stole, cap, and tassel.  (The tassel color is white for a BA, brown for a BFA, and pink for a BM; the stole color is bronzy-brown for all Fine Arts graduates.)  These items may be purchased from the University Co-op.  You need to order the regalia by mail or online at http://www.universitycoop.com/info/grad-info by December 3.  You can also order graduation invitations and announcements at the University Co-op’s website.

Tickets are not required, but you should urge your guests to arrive early to ensure optimum seating.  You will also want to remind your guests that there will be no parking available in the immediate vicinity of the LBJ Auditorium where the ceremony will be held. 

If accommodations are needed for disabled students or their guests, please contact Christine Huber (christine.huber@austin.utexas.edu) within at least 5 business days advance notice so arrangements can be made.

There will be no rehearsal for the ceremony, but if you RSVP before December 1 to cwhited@austin.utexas.edu, specific instructions will be emailed to you regarding check-in and your role during the ceremony. Please check your email account to ensure you can receive emails with attachments from cwhited@austin.utexas.edu.
