Guest Speakers: Live entertainment producers Brian Becker and Louis Messina

College of Fine Arts students are invited to visit the class “Big Shows: The Business of Producing Commercial Theatre/Entertainment” to hear special guest speakers Brian Becker and Louis Messina.

Brian Becker is the CEO of BASE Entertainment, a live entertainment company that develops, produces and presents live entertainment. BASE’s productions include Phantom of the Opera: The Las Vegas Spectacular, Peep Show starring Holly Madison, Puppet Up in partnership with the Henson Company, Jersey Boys, Frankie Moreno, Paul Zerdin Mouthing Off, Sea Creatures: What Lies Beneath and SPY: The Secret World of Espionage. From 2000 to 2005, Becker served as chairman and CEO of Clear Channel Entertainment, the world’s leading producer and promoter of live entertainment events, as well as the world’s largest owner and operator of event venues, managing acquisitions and operations in the music, theater, motor sports, exhibitions, properties and sports agency businesses. During his tenure, Becker was named one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Entertainment by “Entertainment Weekly” Magazine for four consecutive years.

Louis Messina is the founder and CEO of Messina Touring Group, a tour promoter for such musicians as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Eric Church, George Strait, Jake Owen and Kenny Chesney. Messina co-founded PACE Concerts with Allen Becker in 1975, and Messina quickly became one of the live industry's stars, promoting the biggest acts of the day (Bruce Springsteen, Van Halen, U2, Fleetwood Mac and others) and launching or helming major tour concepts like Ozzfest, Texxas Jam, Monsters of Rock and the George Strait Country Music Festival. PACE grew and was eventually purchased by Clear Channel Communications in 1998. He founded Messina Touring Group in 2002, and the company has accounted for over $ 1 billion in ticket grosses since its inception.
