Body is a Bridge: Riel and Bianca Sturchio in Conversation

  • November 3, 2017 4:00 PM

Stigmatized ideas of beauty, ability, and health are maintained by dialogues that often disempower, disengage, or exclude those who don’t fit into a social norm or a specific age group. Body is a Bridge mingles the narratives of two distinct yet relative characters, Johanne and Bianca. Bianca will give a brief talk in the gallery to discuss her experiences with disability, mental illness, and identity. Following the talk, Bianca and Riel will follow up with a Q&A to discuss the themes of the show, and ask each other questions pertaining to the creation of this body of work.

Industry Insights: The Cultural Chameleon: Finding Uncommon Connections with Melissa Snoza

  • November 8, 2017 12:00 PM

Industry Insights attendance is only open to current COFA students and COFA alumni.

Fifth House Ensemble’s Executive Director, Melissa Snoza, shares the story of her own upbringing in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual household; an experience that developed her into a cultural chameleon with a passion for developing authentic, yet unexpected connections in her creative practice.  Her current work leverages the capacity to create connections and common language to generate projects that engage international partners, source collaborators from wildly diverse disciplines, and result in genre-defying artistic experiences. Whether assembling internal work teams or developing collaborations with external partners, this conversation explores the true meaning of collaboration, offering tools for developing a common language and demonstrating how engaging diverse voices at every stage of the creative process leads not just to inclusion but to richly rewarding work.
