As part of The Contemporary Austin’s exhibition Strange Pilgrims, Rachel Stuckey, a third-year M.F.A. student, is in charge of maintaining the projectors for an historic film installation piece from 1976 by Paul Shartis called Dream Displacement. Houston businessman and producer Allen Becker will receive the 2016 Doty Award, the highest honor bestowed by the College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. The Doty Award, now in its 21st year, honors individuals who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary professional achievement and/or demonstrated a dedicated loyalty to the College of Fine Arts. This year, the college will also honor Tony Award-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams with the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

The Daily Texan takes a look at Pastelegram, a nonprofit arts organization that publishes multiple online magazines and an annual print edition, all with a focus on often-overlooked materials that influence or contribute to an artist’s work. Fine Arts alumna Chelsea Weathers (M.A., Art History, 2005; Ph.D., Art History, 2013) and Art History graduate students Ariel Evans and Allison Myers edit the magazine, which began in 2011.

Butler Alum Shines on Mother Falcon’s National Tour

Music alumna Diana Burgess joined Mother Falcon before graduating high school. Now fresh out of The University of Texas at Austin, the cellist is on tour with the indie-pop band to promote the release of their third album Good Luck Have Fun.
